In June 2021, the Amphibian Survival Alliance (ASA) celebrates its 10th anniversary! This is a very special moment for the entire international amphibian conservation community and to celebrate it, we have planned an entire month of exciting activities!

To kick off celebrations, today we are pleased to announce the launch of our 2021 Amphibian Conservation Start-up Grants programme!

These grants are awarded in honour of Dr. George B. Rabb (1930-2017), an ardent supporter of amphibians and all those who care for them. From this year, we are also offering grants in honour of Professor Phil Bishop (1957–2021). Phil worked as ASA’s Chief Scientist from day one and inspired us all in so many ways to care more about the world’s amphibians.

Within the ASA Start-up Grants, initial funding up to US$5,000 is available to establish new in situ amphibian conservation projects, and to help them attract larger and/or long-term funding.

Key priority topics for funding include habitat conservation and mitigating the impact of amphibian diseases. We are also keen to support any actions that promote awareness and understanding of amphibians and their conservation, and any knowledge products that will improve conservation impacts.

Projects in developing countries that are led by (or integrally include) local organisations will be prioritised, as will projects that focus on globally Threatened/Data Deficient amphibian species. Because of the pandemic situation, we are aware that fieldwork cannot be conducted in several regions of the world. For this reason, this year we are also keen to receive creative applications that do not necessarily involve fieldwork but will nonetheless benefit amphibian conservation.

The deadline to submit your Pre-proposal Form for this current round of grants is June 30th, 2021. ASA Start-up Grants are available to organizations only and not individuals.
