A pictorial guide to frogs and toads of the Western Ghats of India was published in 2012 by Gubbi Labs with generous funding from Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) to Gururaja KV. The guide illustrates 73 species of over 200 species (nearly a third) of anurans in the Western Ghats. The book is specially designed in landscape format (4.5 by 6 inch), with quality photographs of each species, Peterson’s method of pointers to key features, pictograms, distribution maps, habitat photos and with minimal text. Scientific and common names, museum record, actual and relative sizes, habitats and current IUCN status of each species are also provided. Species are grouped on their habitat preferences, namely terrestrial (including burrowing), semi-aquatic/terrestrial, aquatic and arboreal, making it easy to use in the field. With printed copies being sold out in the first two years of print, the author decided to provide an e-version of the book, online for free.
