Madagascar

A land of tremendous opportunity

Madagascar boasts an exceptional diversity of amphibians – almost 100% of over 270 described species are endemic to the island, and a quarter are threatened with extinction. A tremendous opportunity currently exists for incorporating amphibians into a broader conservation agenda for the country. In September 2006 a workshop was convened to develop an Amphibian Conservation Strategy for the Amphibians of Madagascar - The Sahonagasy Action Plan – http://www.sahonagasy.org. The ASG is playing a pivotal role in the execution of this plan.
